The 6 Wives of Henry VIII

"Clear highlight was ‘The Six Wives of Henry VIII’, in which performers Howard Coggins and Stuart McLoughlin and director Craig Edwards gave us a beautifully rough-and-ready presentation of their comic race through the life of the portly monarch and his troubled bedfellows. Some brilliant comic acting, beautifully written and performed by a superbly matched double act (Coggins short, stocky and impatient, in and out of character, with McLoughlin; the latter tall, skinny, ‘jug-eared’ (his words) and desperately, hilariously, trying to keep up). Howard Coggins looks like Henry VIII. There's no escaping that.Stu McLoughlin doesn't really look like any of the wives, but he's going to give it a go.Can Bristol's own Howard Coggins and Stuart McLoughlin put aside their differences and make it through to the end without killing each other as they attempt to reignite their flagging acting careers by performing the story of the six wives of Henry VIII?With live original music, much tomfoolery, silly songs and historical hysteria, this promises to be an ill-researched lesson in Tudor history that you'll never forget.The idea of 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII' was spawned during a visit to Hever castle. Whilst admiring a grand portrait of Henry VIII, Stu was struck by how much he resembled his friend Howard and decided there must be a show in there somewhere. Howard maintains that Stu bears an uncanny resemblence to Ann of Cleves, but Stu doesn't really see it.
